Knitting Shetland Lace CD-rom
by Elizabeth Lovick
This CD-rom contains the following:
The Shetland Lace Workbook
This pdf book is taken directly from the workshops I have done on the Traditional Knitting and the EZasPi yahoo groups.
This is very much a How To book. It takes you in stages from your first yarn over to knitting with cobweb yarn and designing your own shawls etc. It includes specifically Shetland stuff - like a bit about the history of Shetland lace - and general lace stuff - like tips on how to knit with thick needles and thin yarn, how to chart lace etc. It also has a detailed section on recovering mistakes!! It includes projects like scarves, bookmarks and miniature shawls. It runs to 48 A4/ pages plus another 12 pages of hints and tips from the EZasPi group.

They are graded with the easiest first, and include things like boat neck sweaters which are as easy to make as a scarf.

The Same But Different
Prepared for a KBTH Lace Conference, this compares the knitted lace traditions of Shetland, Iceland, the Faroes, Estonia, Ukraine and Orenburg. There are charted examples of lace motifs and 5 full patterns.
The CD-rom also contains over 150 photos of the island of Unst, where the finest shawls were knitted, along with many photos of antique and modern lace shawls. 13 of these photos have been prepared as wall papers for both normal and wide screens.
